Mick McCarthy has insisted Sunderland´s boo-boys had nothing to do with his decision to take under-fire keeper Kelvin Davis out of the limelight on Saturday.McCarthy decided to leave the 29-year-old, who was severely criticised for his part in the 4-1 home defeat by Portsmouth last weekend, on the bench for Saturday´s difficult trip to Arsenal and hand 18-year-old Ben Alnwick a Barclays Premiership debut instead.McCarthy says he wanted to give his £1.25million signing a chance to regroup and the change was not in response to the calls of an increasingly vociferous section of the Black Cats´ support. "If anyone thinks I was bowing to people booing Kelvin Davis, they are wrong," he said.
