Manager Ally McCoist revealed there is a "distinct possibility" that Rangers will appeal the straight red card shown to Lee McCulloch in a 2-1 defeat at St Mirren in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

McCoist felt the midfielder's dismissal for violent conduct in the first half was harsh and he will now decide whether to take their case to the Scottish Football Association. As it stands, McCulloch - and Dorin Goian who picked up two yellow cards against Saints - are both set to miss Wednesday's crucial Old Firm derby at Celtic Park.

McCoist said: "We will have a look at it again in the next couple of hours and decide whether we are going to appeal. I'll have a chat with Lee but it's a distinct possibility."
