Everton have suffered another injury setback after captain Phil Neville aggravated a knee injury which now requires surgery.

Neville will have an operation on Tuesday on the knee he injured against Fulham in September. Last weekend manager David Moyes had been hopeful Neville may have been fit for Wednesday's Barclays Premier League clash at Hull, but he has now been sidelined for a few more weeks.

"Phil is having a minor operation today (Tuesday). He has bit of a cartilage tear, which we knew about, but the surgeon didn't want to operate on it [at the time of the injury] as he didn't think it was needed," said Moyes. "It looks as if the tear has got slightly bigger so we feel now we have to go in and do something about it."

He added: "We were probably expecting Phil to have maybe started against Manchester United (last Saturday), or Hull or maybe Liverpool but it now looks like he is going to be out for another two or three weeks."
