Having landed Roque Santa Cruz, finally, Mark Hughes is expected to turn his attention to a strike partner for Manchester City’s new signing.

After cutting his ties with Manchester United, Carlos Tevez is a wanted man, but City have emerged as favourites to sign him – in the eyes of the bookies at least.

And, having completed his own £17m switch to Eastlands yesterday, Santa Cruz urged his new club to do all they can to sign his fellow South American.

"If Tevez comes too he would be a very good signing," Santa Cruz told radio 970 AM. "I hope that Tevez could join Manchester City. I heard that there have been conversations about that happening. He would be a really good signing."

Santa Cruz, who missed a lot of last season through injury, reckons he will be fit and raring to go when City's pre-season work starts on July 4.

"I am going to keep on working hard recovering from my knee injury and I think that I will be ready to start pre-season work together with all the team," he continued.

"It's very nice to join a team like this one after going through so many problems."
