Leicester City call off their £140,000 transfer of Liverpool’s John Toshack because tests reveal he has a muscle injury on his left thigh. Toshack, who had agreed terms, had been named in the Leicester team to face Manchester City, but is now withdrawn.
‘Tosh’ would stay at Liverpool until 1978, during which time he would add two League Championship medals and a UEFA Cup medal to his collection whilst bringing his total of goals for the club to 96.
However, injuries eventually took their toll and he was transferred to Swansea City who he joined as player-manager in 1978.
John is still held in high regard by Liverpool supporters who voted him in at No.34 on the Liverpool Football Club web-site poll of ‘100 Players Who Shook The Kop’.
