Burnley new boys Steven Fletcher, a club record signing at £3m from Hibernian, and Tyrone Mears have revealed how Owen Coyle was key to their moves.

Scotland striker Fletcher said: “As soon as I heard that Burnley were after me, and knowing Owen Coyle as I do, I thought this was the right place to develop my career.

"The opportunity came along in January for me to join Celtic, but Hibs did not think it was the right time to move on.

"When the chance arrived to come to the Premier League and play for a club like Burnley, I was glad they accepted that and let me come down."

Mears
, who joins from Derby for a fee in the region of £500,000, added: “Just hearing what manager Owen Coyle had to say and how he wants to improve me as a player is a major plus.

"But I'm also glad to be back in England and the Premier League,” he said, having returned from a loan spell with Marseille.
