Stuart Pearce has backed the potential appointment of Luiz Felipe Scolari as successor to Sven-Goran Eriksson, although the Manchester City boss sympathises with homegrown managers who appear to be out of the running for the England job.Pearce himself was suggested as a candidate for the position when Eriksson announced he would leave after this summer´s World Cup, although Scolari is now firm favourite after the Football Association flew to Lisbon to meet him."I do recognise that there are Englishmen who feel they are experienced enough to do the job and I can understand they are frustrated if they haven´t got it," said Pearce. "I am surprised it´s not an Englishman because the groundswell of public opinion seemed to be pushing towards someone of that nature."
