Former Republic of Ireland international Tony Cascarino ripped into Thierry Henry after his ‘handball’ ruined Eire’s chance of reaching the World Cup finals in South Africa next year…
“No doubt he will plead his innocence. But to me, that handball was pure, calculated cheating. Accidental? He handballed it to keep it in, then slightly knocked it again to get it nicely on his right foot. It’s tarnished his reputation for good.
“Like Diego Maradona, when we reflect in years to come on the career of one of the finest strikers the game has known, we will have to put his handball against Ireland right up there with all the great goals he scored.
“What a tragic missed opportunity. What a chance to be a hero Henry had - not to his home country but to the whole game.”
MK Dons manager Paul Ince wasn’t happy with Wales boss John Toshack after he left Jermaine Easter on the bench against Scotland whilst the Dons were tumbling to a 5-1 defeat at Charlton…
"I am disappointed with John Toshack as Jermaine didn't even get on and that is an insult and a lack of respect. Not just to myself but to MK Dons as a football club.
"It was a meaningless friendly. I can understand if he comes on for the last 20 minutes and gets a bit more international experience. But knowing that we have a massive game and that he has scored ten in 14 for us, to still not even play him – for me it is a lack of respect.”
Craig Burley defends his Uncle George’s record after he was sacked following Scotland’s 3-0 defeat in Cardiff…
"I'm not shocked at all. Wales was a disastrous result. It's not as if we were playing England or Brazil or France, it was Wales and it was unacceptable from the manager's and players' point of view.
"I don't think what he wanted to do got across to some players and also I think some of them are too thick to take it on board and not good enough to take it on board anyway to be perfectly honest with you.
"But he can look at most of the players in the eye and ask if they did a good job for him and I don't think there are many, if any, who can say, 'Yes, I did.”
