As Cristiano Ronaldo took the acclaim of adoring Real Madrid fans he insisted he was joining the strongest league in the world, but is that really the case?
Florentino Perez’s unprecedented transfer spree this summer has seen
Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Raul Albiol all move to La Liga, and with Barcelona lifting the Champions League last year everything seems to bode well for the Spanish league.
However, it was the English Premier League that provided three of the four semi-finalists last year in the Champions League, and the two finalists in 2008?
Is La Liga more exciting than the German league that saw Wolfsburg lift the Bundesliga title last year, or does it possess more raw talent than the French League, which saw new champions in Bordeaux?
And whilst Real Madrid have splurged almost £200m, what is to say
Manchester City won’t do exactly the same as they bid to gatecrash the top four of the Premier League.
"The Premier League is a very good competition, but I think that the Spanish league is going to have a little more quality because of the players that are arriving," said Ronaldo.
"Both leagues are going to be very good, but I think that with Florentino Perez's signings the Spanish league is superior to the English.
“It's going to be a magnificent competition in Spain. All the players have a lot of quality and the referees protect the players more."
