Liverpool have been reported over the weekend about considering a bid for talented Lassana Diarra in January.

Despite building a great partnership with ex-Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, The People newspaper have claimed Diarra is unhappy in Spain and has told friends that he would welcome a return to English football.

The quality in Liverpool's midfield has been questioned since the start of this season, as well as Rafael Benitez's position as manager. The quality and Premier League experience of Diarra would be a great signing. However, the price tag for the former Chelsea and Arsenal star is said to be in excess of £20 million.

Liverpool will first have to resolve their well publicised financial problems before such a move can take place, otherwise the only other option for the reds is selling another one of their stars. Currently, Javier Mascherano is the only player that fulfills this criteria as Barcelona once again, will be ready to snap up the charismatic midfielder.
