Jose Reina has been hailed as the "world-class" goalkeeper who could have turned around Liverpool's declining campaign.
The Spanish international produced a double save in Sunday's Merseyside derby victory from Everton midfielders Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini that left players and fans alike open-mouthed in disbelief.
England international Glen Johnson led the praise, saying: "Those saves was amazing. We were one-up at the time and hanging on."
He added: "If either Cahill or Fellaini had scored, it could have been a different story.
"Those saves turned our season around. Pepe is one of the best in the business, there is no disputing that.
"He is certainly one of the best that I have ever played alongside. He has got so much to his game, he is even really good with his feet and you can see him in training. That is what the modern goalkeeper needs. He is quick and agile and makes great saves."
Dutch forward Dirk Kuyt, who scored the clinching second goal, was also full of praise for team-mate Reina.
He said: "Everton put us under a lot of pressure with the long balls because they have quality players in the air like Fellaini and Cahill.
"They caused us a few problems but I thought the defence and Pepe Reina were superb.
"Pepe made a great double save, and for me he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He definitely showed that with the derby match saves.
