Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder has vowed to do all he can to keep goalkeeper Steve Harper at St James´ Park despite his hunger for first-team football.Roeder understands the 31-year-old´s desire to be able to show what he can do on a regular basis having spent most of his career on Tyneside in Shay Given´s shadow. The 50-year-old, like Sir Bobby Robson before him, believes he has the best pair of goalkeepers in the Barclays Premiership and is desperate to keep them together.Roeder said: "Everyone knows Steve´s situation and I would be unhappy if we lost him as he is very much a Premiership goalkeeper in my eyes. In fact, while a lot of people would say Chelsea have the best pairing of keepers in Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini, I would not swap them for Shay Given and Steve Harper. But I suppose Harper´s situation with us can be summed up by the fact Shay has just been voted the top keeper in the Premiership by his fellow professionals."
