Sky TV's expert co-commentator Andy Gray has urged Alan Shearer to take the managerial job at Newcastle - if he is offered the position.
Earlier this week, Shearer's former Toon teammate Rob Lee said he thought Shearer would take the job 'if the circumstances were right' and Gray believes the Magpies' legend should put his TV career on hold and grab the chance, if it comes his way.
"This is the biggest dilemma Alan Shearer will have to cope with. Does he want his life to change overnight? Will he mind not playing the golf he loves so much? Will he not mind having the time off he can now enjoy with his family? Is he ready to forget about having no real pressure?" said the former Scotland international.
Because being a football manager is 24-7. He'll be about the club all the time and he can forget golf, forget trips to his house in Portugal for most of the year and he can forget about seeing his family except at nights. Alan surely doesn't need the money that managing Newcastle will bring, so he can base his decision purely and simply on answering one simple question: 'do I really want this?'
"I hope he does, I really do. TV will always be there, he can always go back to it and I've said the same to Jamie Redknapp at Sky, now that his Dad, Harry, has the job at Spurs. Jamie and Alan are about the same age, the right age. If they want to go back into the game they should do it."
Three match ban
Meanwhile, Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has been hit with a three-match ban following the coin-throwing controversy against Burnley last week.
Drogba had coins thrown at him from a section of the travelling supporters during that match but he picked one up and threw it back into the crowd.
The 30-year-old, who admitted the charge, was punished by an FA Regulatory Commission and will miss the next three Premiership matches against Newcastle, Arsenal and Bolton.
Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck said: "Didier did something he should not have done. However, you have to look at the fans. I believe the FA will take a look and find the culprits. To his credit, Didier apologised publicly almost immediately."
Diarra sidelined
Staying with news from the Premiership, Portsmouth have been dealt a blow with the news that influential midfielder Lassana Diarra could be sidelined for three weeks according to manager Tony Adams.
The French international injured his ankle in Saturday's goalless draw at West Ham and limped out of the game early in the first half. Diarra is currently being treated in France, following a scan, after the national team insisted he join their squad for the friendly against Uruguay.
Adams said: "At a club like Portsmouth, injuries will have an effect as we haven't got the luxury of a massive squad. We lost Sol Campbell and Niko Kranjcar with injuries before the West Ham game. I would have liked to have had scanned him on Sunday and then given them (France) a fair assessment - but now we have to wait."
