Torquay could hand a debut to new loan signing Adam Smith when they host promotion-chasing Rotherham.

The 18-year-old, who can play at left-back or right-back, has arrived on loan from Premier League side Tottenham and will stay with Paul Buckle's side until January.

Torquay are also set to be boosted by the return of fit-again midfielder Nicky Wroe.

Wroe (neck) missed last Saturday's 1-1 draw at Shrewsbury as the third from bottom Gulls extended their unbeaten league run to seven matches after skipper Chris Hargreaves fired them into a 76th minute lead.

Buckle made three changes to the side that had knocked out league rivals Cheltenham in the FA Cup 3-1 thanks to Wroe's hat trick.

Goalkeeper Michael Poke, winger Danny Stevens and central midfielder Tyrone Thompson were all recalled in a new-look 4-5-1 formation at the New Meadow and Buckle may opt to stick with at least two of the trio against Ronnie Moore's men.

Torquay will be without suspended central defender Kieran Charnock following his second-half dismissal at Shrewsbury, so Mark Ellis is set to be recalled.

New signing Gary Roberts is expected to be included in Rotherham's squad.

The midfielder joined the Millers on a one-month deal this week after impressing boss Ronnie Moore in a trial with the League Two promotion-hopefuls.

The 22-year-old is expected to be named on the substitutes bench, with Moore unlikely to change the starting line-up from last weekend's win at Port Vale.

Experienced forward Andy Liddell is not likely to feature for the south Yorkshire club for some time after it was revealed he is suffering from an Achilles injury.

Liddell has found first-team opportunities few and far between since arriving at the club in the summer, and has not featured since the Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Huddersfield at the start of September.

Micky Cummins is also ruled out with a groin injury.
