Rangers boss Walter Smith expects Barry Ferguson to maintain his focus despite reports linking him with a move to Newcastle.
Magpies manager Joe Kinnear claimed he had made an enquiry about the Gers captain but Smith insisted there has been no contact between the clubs.
"Barry Ferguson is an experienced player and like every other player that we have, they don't get upset about it," he said.
"That was a strange one for the simple reason that there has been no contact from Newcastle at all.
"I can appreciate a manager being interested in a player but he can't say he has been in touch with anybody at Rangers when he has not.
"I don't know if he has done that to pacify his own support because I can't think of a reason why he'd say that, and that is the disappointing thing."
Smith's comments came after Rangers reduced the gap to Celtic at the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League to five points with a 3-0 victory at Inverness.
