Walter Smith has welcomed the prospect of Rangers duo Kris Boyd and Allan McGregor - as well as former captain Barry Ferguson - making a dramatic return for Scotland.
McGregor and Ferguson, who is now at Birmingham, were banished from the national team following the "Boozegate" affair, while Boyd opted not to play under George Burley.
"I hope it can be cleared up but it will be Craig Levein's decision in the end. It would be good if they could get an opportunity to go back if that's what they want," he said.
New Scotland boss Craig Levein has indicated he would welcome all three back into the fold and Rangers boss Smith hopes a return for McGregor and Ferguson in particular will bring an end to what he believes is ongoing punishment.
He added: "They have been punished and it's an ongoing punishment because every time you pick up a paper you get images of them doing what they did. They are going to have to live with that.
"In Kris Boyd's case it was his choice. In Allan McGregor's it wasn't. Allan and Barry have paid a price for what they did and that's finished now.
"They didn't commit a crime did they? The only people they have hurt have been themselves. I would hope both get an opportunity to go back.
"Both have got something to offer, as has Boydy. If they do get a chance I'd be happy for them to take it."
Meanwhile, Levein has warned Scottish Football Association chief executive Gordon Smith and president George Peat he will not tolerate any meddling in his new role.
He said: "I haven't mentioned it to George and Gordon but they'll get a growl if anything like that happens with me. This is my job. Gordon and the rest of the board gave me the job. I don't expect any interference at all. In fact, there won't be any interference at all. I'll do my job and they will do their jobs."
