Peter Kenyon insists Chelsea´s spending spree will have to slow down drastically over the next 18 months. The Stamford Bridge chief executive stressed that Chelsea´s five-year vision under Roman Abramovich had allowed for heavy initial spending. That will be borne out by the publication of record losses for a British club, but he underlined Chelsea´s intention to become a profitable business, and to achieve that goal Kenyon admits cutbacks will be required."Clearly by not buying as many players, that has a significant impact," said Kenyon on BBC Radio Five Live. "I think if you look at the trend in 2003/04, we spent a massive £175million; in 04/05 we spent £88million; and in 05/06 it´ll be considerably less."
