Tottenham have opened talks with Manchester City over a permanent move for loan striker Emmanuel Adebayor reports the Daily Mail.
The 27-year-old Togolese star would cost the club around £8million - a modest fee compared to the £25million Roberto Mancini paid to bring him to the Etihad Stadium back in 2009.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is keen to keep Adebayor at White Hart Lane after impressing in the first half of the season, but his £170,000-a-week wage demands could prove to be the sticking point.
Tottenham's current wage cap is set at around £75,000-per-week, however they would smash through that to land Adebayor.
Club chairman Daniel Levy has shown his flexibility by offering influential playmaker Luka Modric a new bumper £100,000-a-week contract to secure his long-term future, and it is understood Levy is willing to offer Adebayor financial parity.
That said, the Citizens loanee will still be forced to take a significant pay-cut if he is going to make his return to north London permanent.
As it stands, Spurs pay around 50 per cent of his City salary, while the Barclays Premier League leaders pick up the rest of the bill.
