Sun Jihai´s lengthy spell on the sidelines will be extended even further after the Manchester City utility player suffered a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury.

The China international has already been plagued by the problem for four months and has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Blues this season. He did seem to be on the comeback trail until he complained of more pain from the same injury last week and City boss Stuart Pearce admits the situation is causing some concern.

"Jihai has had a setback but we are still waiting to find out the precise nature of the problem," confirmed Pearce. "It is a bit of a blow and it is serious to the extent he has already been out for four months with the same injury and it is still not right."
