Stoke assistant boss Jan de Koning admitted Gerry Taggart was an unlikely hero after the veteran defender put the Potters on the way to a 2-1 victory at Coventry. The visitors were 1-0 down to Lilian Nalis´ scrappy goal before Taggart smashed the ball through a crowded penalty area and into the bottom corner. The goal sparked a revival from Stoke, who won the game 10 minutes into the second half thanks to Paul Gallagher´s brilliant curling effort.Taggart had been coaching in Holland, but was recalled because of Stoke´s suspension problems, and De Koning was full of praise for the 35-year-old. He said: "It´s fantastic Gerry Taggart scored. I was very pleased for him. He never shoots at goal in training, but it was a fantastic strike."
