Givemefootball football take a look at three possible signings Chelsea could make to ease the lose of Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, John Mikel Obi, and Salomon Kalou to the African Cup of Nations in January.
Sergio Aguero (Atletico Madrid)
Atletico Madrid managed to resist all offers last summer but fear they could loose the striker in January.
Chelsea may test Madrid with a substantial bid in the next transfer window knowing the club has financial difficulties and has no option but to listen to offers.
However, Aguero’s huge wage demands could prove a stumbling block for the Blues and would also be cup-tied for the Champions League.
Cost: £40m
Frank Ribery (Bayern Munich)
Chelsea have been chasing Franck Ribery for some time and could step up their pursuit of the highly rated winger in January.
A bid of just over £40 million for Ribery was rejected by the German club in the summer even though Roman Abramovich was involved in negotiations.
However, Chelsea already have a number of players in wide positions and it remains to be seen how Ribery could fit into Ancelotti’s narrow dimamond midfield.
Cost: £35m
David Villa (Valencia)
David Villa is a player who is continuously linked with a move away from the Spanish side with Chelsea reportedly interested in signing the striker.
The Spaniard has continually impressed for both club and country and now Valencia may now have to cash in on the striker to ease financial problems.
However, will manager Carlo Ancelotti be able to keep Drogba, Anelka and Villa all happy at the Bridge – I think not.
