Hull defender Michael Turner is backing the Tigers to stay in the Premier League and save himself from having to consider quitting the KC Stadium.

Turner has been an ever-present for Phil Brown’s men this season, and his performances at the heart of Hull City’s back four have taken him to the brink of the England squad.

City go into the last game of the season against Manchester United just a point ahead of Newcastle and Turner said: “To make this year even more special it is vital that we retain our Premier League status.

“Hopefully by the end of the weekend we will have achieved that. We are confident we can achieve it and everything is now back in our own hands.

“Newcastle know they have to get a result so I’m sure they will be feeling the pressure this week but we’ve got to concentrate on our own game. But we have achieved a massive edge after the point at Bolton.”

He added: “A few people raised their eyebrows as to whether I could perform at this level but I’d like to think I’ve proved some people wrong. I think I’ve progressed gradually and all I’ve tried to do is be consistent every week.”
