Liam Ridgewell could become the subject of a battle between Newcastle and West Brom for a January swoop, the Daily Mirror claims, with the defender set to leave Birmingham for a move back into the Barclays Premier League.

Ridgewell, who signed for Birmingham in 2007, has put in some impressive performances for the side, and while he was the subject of transfer speculation over the summer, a move never eventuated.

But that has only served to make the speculation grow louder, and while Newcastle have long had their eye on Ridgewell, West Brom are also now interested, which could increase the star's current £2 million valuation.

Newcastle are currently third in the Barclays Premier League table, and have had a surprisingly successful start to the season despite failing to sign a striker in the summer transfer window.

And while a forward is still high on Pardew’s transfer priorities, The Newcastle manager is hoping to bolster the Toon squad in as many areas as possible to keep Newcastle challenging for European football.
