Tottenham v Sheffield United

Tottenham defender Michael Dawson has called on his teammates to put Saturdays disappointment at Bolton behind them as they bid to get their season on track.

The Londoners are many peoples tip to be the main challengers to the big four but their opening day 2-0 reverse at the Reebok Stadium was not the start they were looking for.

Dawson admitted: "Bolton was a disappointing result and performance and we are obviously very low. We've got to put it behind us now. We've got to get our heads down and work on what we didn't do.

"I think Bolton's first goal was definitely a free-kick but the second one was a great goal by Ivan Campo and sometimes you have got to hold your hands up. We just didn't perform on the day though."

Spurs are sweating on the fitness of striker Jermain Defoe after he bruised his foot against Bolton. Robbie Keane will start in attack alongside Dimitar Berbatov if the England ace is ruled out. Midfielder Teemu Tainio is set for a return to action after recovering from a twisted ankle, but captain Ledley King is still ruled out.

Sheffield United will be without centre-back Craig Short. He has failed to recover from the thigh injury which kept him out against Liverpool on Saturday, but the Blades have no other injury worries.

Neil Warnocks side proved they are up to the task in the Premiership with a battling draw against Liverpool at the weekend, but assistant manager Stuart McCall knows they face another tough test at White Hart Lane.

He said: "Anybody with the likes of Keane, Defoe, Lennon and Berbatov in the squad are going to score a lot of goals at home.

"They've a good squad, while Martin Jol is a terrific manager, and they'll be top six this season. They've two home games coming up now and they'll be looking to take six points from them."

Verdict: Tottenham will be desperate to put Saturdays poor start behind them. But Sheffield United will give it everything and Jols side may have to settle for a point.

Watford v West Ham

Watford defender James Chambers has issued a forceful rallying cry ahead of his sides first home game of the season. The Hornets were unlucky to lose to a controversial penalty at Everton on Saturday and that performance has given Chambers great heart for the future.

He insisted: "There's nothing to fear in this league. If we play the way that we can, with the whole team putting in the effort and work-rate, there are points to be picked up in every game. West Ham have a lot of pace and power, but we are capable of handling them."

Watford have no new injury concerns, but central defender Jay DeMerit is poised for a recall after shaking off the ankle injury which saw teenager Adrian Mariappa play at the weekend.

West Ham are still missing the injured Dean Ashton and Matthew Etherington, but new signing Jonathan Spector is added to their squad after recovering from a shoulder injury.

Manager Alan Pardews biggest decision is likely to be who starts up front. Marlon Harewood and Bobby Zamora got the nod for the weekends win over Charlton, with Zamora scoring twice, but new signing Carlton Cole came off the bench late on to add a third.

And the former Chelsea striker wants the chance to stake his claim for a starting berth. He said: "I am keen to fight for my place in the side. I have done that at Chelsea, I am used to the competition. The boys here will put in a good fight and it will only up my game. I have a point to prove. I have not played enough to score a bag of goals."

Verdict: Watford will be keen to out on a good show in front of their own fans, but West Ham may have too much firepower.
