Manchester United have reportedly made David De Gea their number one goalkeeper target in the search to replaace Edwin Van der Sar.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been linked with a string of goalkeepers during the january transfer window, and now Manchester United appear to have found their number one target in De Gea.
The Atletico Madrid stopper has worked his way through the Spanish national ranks, representing his country at all junior levels including a couple of appearances for the U21 side.
Not yet a regular at Atletico, De Gea has only made a couple of appearances for Los colchoneros, although one of those was a substitue appearance in the Champions League against Porto.
Held in high regard at the Vicente Calderon stadium, United scouts first noted the ability of De Gea during his time at the Under-17 World Cup, where he helped Spain reach the final.
The Red Devils have since kept tabs on the youngster, and now the Sunday Mirror reports that the keeper is ahead of Sebastien Frey and Manuel Neuer as a target at Old Trafford.Ben Foster and Tomasz Kuszack have both failed to impress when given their opportunity during the recent absence of Van der Sar, and United appear likely to add another keeper in the not too distant future.
