Manchester United are reportedly planning a summer move for highly rated Portuguese midfielder Miguel Veloso.
Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly had an eye on the Sporting Lisbon star for some time, and Manchester United scouts were sent to watch the the 23-year-old in their Europa League first leg defeat at Goodison Park.
They are also expected to travel to the Estádio José Alvalade to watch the second leg against Everton tonight (Thursday).
A holding midfielder that also has the ability to play in central defence, it's Veloso's versatility that has made him such a sort after player. Linked with a handful of the top clubs in europe over the past year, it's now the Red Devils who appear most likely to make a move in the summer.
Veloso made his debut for Leões back in 2006, and despite a couple of injuries has consistently been the star man for the top side from the Portuguese capital.
A second place finish in Liga Sagres last season did nothing to dispel rumours of an exit from his homeland, and now the international looks likely to leave his homeland after the recent reports in the Mirror.
United assistant coach Mike Phelan has even commented, telling a Portuguese Sports Daily: "We know Veloso well, including from the time he played against us. He is an excellent midfielder, with great potential.”A bid of around £10 million is thought to be needed to prize the dead ball specialist away from Sporting. With 8 international appearances already to his name and a World Cup appearance around the corner, the price would appear to be on the cheap side and Ferguson might have to move quickly to avoid a bidding war in the summer month
