Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a double swoop for French league stars Benoit Cheyrou and Marouane Chamakh in January.

The pair have gained rave reviews for their performances in Ligue 1, and it is thought that scouts have been dispatched from Old Trafford to watch Cheyrou already.

The younger brother of former Liverpool midfielder Bruno, Cheyrou plays in a defensive midfield role for Olympique Marseille. If the reports in France are to be believed, the player was watched by the Red Devils in the sensational 5-5 draw against Lyon last weekend.

The 28-year-old is contracted to Didier Deschamps' side until 2013, but a decent bid could persuade the French side to sell.

Marouane Chamakh

Marouane Chamakh has long been on the radar of a string of Premier League clubs, with Arsenal and West Ham previously chasing the Moroccan international.

The Bordeaux star has come to further prominence with a string of impressive performances in the UEFA Champions League, and now Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is reported to be interested in the forward.

The 25-year-old is yet to sign a new contract with his club, and Bordeaux may be forced to sell or risk losing the player for free in the summer.
