Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of signing young Brazilian defender Dodo.

The Corinthians teenager was close to joining the Red Devils in the summer, but Sir Alex Ferguson got cold feet and wanted to take a closer look at the player.

United have since sent scouts to monitor the teenager, with Dodo being watched in a recent league game against Fluminese. A move would see him join the growing number of Brazilians at Old Trafford, with Fabio and Rafael Da Silva, Rodrigo Possebon and Anderson already in the Manchester United ranks.

Dodo accepted an offer of a trial at United, and has taken the eye of scouts after some starring performances in the South American Under 17 World Championships.

A host of papers reported that Dodo was on his way to England in the summer, but now reports in Brazil suggest the youngster will finally make a move in January. It won't be cheap however, with a £5 million price tag expected to be placed on the player's head.

"Next year I will join the first team of Manchester United. I am going to play next to the best players of the world," Dodo said in the summer.

"Every player dreams to play in the national team and then be transferred to a European team. The way in which I play is the typical Brazilian style, with technique and ability."
