Contrary to some reports, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists there is money in the club’s transfer kitty should he choose to spend it.

Wenger said, “They (the board at the Emirates) would certainly say 'Are you sure?', and if I say 'Yes', they would.

"Every time you don’t win a game or play as well as people expect, they say, "Buy players".

"But the solution is not always to buy players. I believe we have a transfer policy where we have to be very strong now.”

Nicklas Bendtner

Meanwhile, Gunners’ striker Nicklas Bendtner has offered to reimburse those fans who have bought a shirt with his old number on.

Bendtner, who has changed his jersey number from 26 to 52, said, “A good number of fans have bought kits with names and numbers printed up.

“So I would like to cover the cost of anyone’s shirt that has my previous number on it.”
