They may have been the subject of an FA Cup giant killing against Swindon Town at the weekend, but boss Roberto Martinez can take pride from fielding a few home talents in the defeat at the County Ground.

The players catching the eye were striker Callum McManaman and full-back Jordan Mustoe, with the latter making his first start for the club since graduating from the academy.

The two 20-year-olds are believed to have a big future at the club, and will be eager for more first-team action after coming through one of the Barclays Premier League's smallest youth systems.

McManaman, who has been particularly impressive, has only just been recalled from a fruitful spell at Blackpool where he managed 14 appearances under Ian Holloway in England's second-tier.

But with the uncertain future of striker Hugo Rodallega and the dip in form for Conor Sammon, McManaman, a distant relative of namesake Steve, may get a run of games in the Premier League.

Mustoe said of his team mate: "He did very well at Blackpool on his loan spell and it's great to have him back at the football club."

Next up for Martinez and his Latics are title-chasing Manchester City, who visit the DW Stadium next Monday evening.
