Kevin Doyle believes Wolves will shock a few people next season in the same way that his former club Reading did when they were promoted to the Premier League three years ago.

Steve Coppell’s Royals narrowly missed out on a European place despite starting the campaign as the bookies’ favourite for relegation, and Wolves’ new £6.5 million signing is confident Mick McCarthy’s men can make a similar impact.

“We finished a point or maybe even a goal away from Europe when we went up with Reading,” said Republic of Ireland international Doyle.

“I don’t know why we did so well but we went in there wide eyed and excited and fresh to play and that got us through.

“It was a bit like it is with Wolves now in that none of us had played in the Premier League before.

“I’m delighted to be joining what is historically a massive club and one which will be trying to establish itself in the Premier League. This is a fresh start for me.”
